Stabilitätsprobleme mit Kernel 2.6

Hallo zusammen,
seit dem ich Debian Sarge mit dem dazugehörenden Kernel 2.6.8-2-686
verwende, ist mein System extrem instabil. Zuerst war das Problem auf
einen defekten RAM-Riegel zurückzuführen. Nachdem entfernen des
Riegels stürzte die Kiste aber weiterhin unmotiviert ab, und
hinterlies auch keine Bemerkungen in irgendwelchen Logs. Nachdem
ich zurück auf den 2.4.27er gewechselt bin, läuft der Laden wieder.
Eigentlich sollte es doch aber keine Probleme mit dem 2.6er mehr
geben? Habt Ihr noch Tips, wo man suchen könnte?
Ich erinnere mich an ähnliche Probleme, als ich vor ca. einem halben
Jahr schonmal auf den 2.6er umstellen wollte, damals hats mir das
ext3 journal zerfetzt, beim restore wurde alles nach /lost+found
geschubst...

P.S.: Achja, das System ist ein Laptop von Acer, ein Travelmate
634LC. Pentium 4M, jetzt nur noch 256 MB RAM, eine Nvidia GeForce 2
GO, eine 30GB HD, ein ALI Chipsatz (lspci -vv hängt an).
P.P.S.: Nein, die WLAN Karte bzw der Treiber isses nicht.
